Microsoft Windows is the general name for a number of families of software operating systems created by Microsoft. This operating system was created in 1985 and is now maintained by Microsoft. Since it's conception, it has undergone substantial growth and development and essentially dominates the market. The most recent client version of Windows is Windows Vista.
