WYSIWYG (pron: wiz-E-wig) is an acronym for What You See Is What You Get, used in computing to describe a system in which content during editing appears very similar to the final product. Sometimes it is spelled phonetically, as "Wizywig" or "Wizzywig". It is commonly used for word processors, but has become common on the Internet for people looking to create their own web sites.

  • The term implies a user interface through which the user can view something very similar to the end result while being created. For example, a user can view on their monitor how a document will look when it is printed or published to the web.
  • It implies the ability to change the layout of a document without having to use specific commands to make the changes.
