Transfer a domain name away from SuperbRegistrar

If you choose to work with a different registrar and need to transfer your registration away from SuperbRegistrar, you will need to remove the registrar lock (.com, .net, .tv, .org, .info, .in) from your domain name and verify that the WHOIS information for the registrant AND administrative contacts is current, including valid email address(es).

If you are transferring an EPP domain, (.org, .cc, .info, .biz, .us, .com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn, .cn and .in) an EPP or authorization key is required. This can be obtained from within your SuperbRegistrar account by logging into myCP. If you cannot find the EPP key, please open a ticket and we will send the EPP key to you.

Transferring your domain to another registrar is different from changing your Nameservers and is also different from transferring your domain to your hosting company. Please see DNS and Nameservers section for assistance with updating your DNS records.

Transfer restrictions and additional information

  • A domain name must be at least 60 days old before the registries will allow it to be transferred between registrars. Once the lock is removed and the name is past the 60-day registry restriction, the domain will be active and fully transferable to your new registrar.
  • Due to a registry restriction (not SuperbRegistrar or any other registrar, but the global registry), if a domain is renewed and then transferred to another registrar within the first 45 days of renewal, the domain will not have an additional year added to the expiration date.

Email Notifications

In accordance with ICANN regulations, SuperbRegistrar does not send a verification email for transfers away to another registrar. Responsibility for registrant verification and notification of transfer lies with the gaining registrar, thus it is their responsibility to verify the request. The process of transferring domains between registrars is an automated process, thus once verification has been made to the gaining registrar, no further action is required by you or by SuperbRegistrar for the transfer to complete successfully.

The requirements to transfer a domain away from SuperbRegistrar are as follows:

  1. The registrar lock has been removed (.com, .net, .org)
  2. The tag change has been requested (.uk) or the authorization key has been obtained for EPP domains (.org, .info, .biz, .us and .cn)

Lock removal, authorization key and tag change requests will be accepted from only the registrant or administrative contact(s) for the domain. We will not provide this information to anyone other than the legal owner(s) of the domain(s).

NOTE: Domains with Registrar-Lock (including expired domains), Registrar-Hold, Redemption Period or Pending Delete status are not transferable.

However, for .com and .net domains being transferred away from SuperbRegistrar, an email will be sent to the registrant and administrative contacts for the domain as notification that a transfer request has been made and verified by the gaining registrar. At this time, the domain has been moved to Pending Transfer status. Domains transferring away from SuperbRegistrar are automatically released, as per ICANN regulations, 5 days from the date the domain was sent into Pending Transfer status.

Because only the registrant and/or administrative contacts have legal rights to make decisions regarding changes or transfer of a domain name, notifications of this manner are sent solely to these contacts. Thus, SuperbRegistrar does not send a copy to the account holder or any other domain contacts such as billing or technical, etc.

After the domain transfer

After a domain transfers away from SuperbRegistrar, we do not purge the domain immediately. Therefore, it will still appear in your account for a few days with the old settings (such as Registrar Lock will show as on.) You might try to remove the lock, for example, but it will not let you because the domain has already transferred away.

Check with the registry to verify the current registrar. For example, for .com domains, you can search the WHOIS at www.verisign-grs.com.
