Search Marketing is one of the areas of the Internet has yet to reach its peak. With more people doing business online and more consumers turning to the Internet for research and making an educated decision on their purchases, search engine optimization and search engine marketing often allow a business to set themselves apart from their competitors by the simple fact that they get listed in the search engine results page and visitors click through to their website.

Search marketing combines a number of different topics. Individually, each will play a role in your search marketing efforts, but really, it is a combination of many different aspects that will lead to the best results. The following are some of the more commonly addressed aspects of search marketing:

Social media marketing and keyword targeting can be loosely grouped in with the above, but they are quickly becoming significant on their own, as well.

Late in 2005 (with an update early in 2006), SEOmoz released a Beginner's Guide to Search Engine Optimization. Starting with a brief introduction to the company and why they've offered the article for free, the beginner's guide provides a range of information on search marketing like What is SEO? and How to Conduct Keyword Research. In total, there are 6 topics covered, and the guide concludes with a section on Crafting an SEO Strategy.

In order, the topics are:

Who is SEOmoz and Why is this Guide Free?
What is SEO?
How to Conduct Keyword Research
Critical Components of Optimizing a Site
Building a Traffic-Worthy Site
Critical Components of Optimizing a Site
Growing a Site's Popularity
Crafting an SEO Strategy

The original guide, although 3 years old, still provides a good foundation for those new to the world of search marketing. However, many things have changed, and as a result, the guide did need to be re-written. The re-write is a work in progress, but many topics have been completed and are available on the site. Please see the outline to the re-write of the beginner's guide for links to the new topics covered.
