ROM stands for, Read-Only Memory and it is a class of storage media used in computers and other electronic mechanisms. Data stored in ROM cannot be modified simply or quickly and as a result it is mainly used to distribute firmware. At its core, ROM refers only to mask ROM (which is the oldest type of solid state ROM), which is created with the desired data permanently stored in it and can therefore never be altered or modified.
