Phishing is an attempt to fraudulently acquire private information, such as usernames, passwords, credit card details and personal information. A phishing scam will don a disguise as a trustworthy entity, usually in an e-mail or some other kind electronic communication. PayPal, eBay and online banks are common targets. Phishing will often direct users to enter their personal details at a website which has been altered somehow or doesn't exist at all. Phishing is an example of social engineering techniques used to trick users. Attempts to deal with the growing number of reported phishing incidents include legislation, user training, public awareness, and technical measures.
