The name LAMP is an acronym which refers to a solution stack of software, typically free and open source software, that is used to run dynamic Web sites or servers. The original expansion is as follows:

  • Linux, the operating system;
  • Apache, the Web server;
  • MySQL, the database management system (or database server);
  • Perl, Python, and PHP, the programming languages.

LAMP can also stand as the acronym for Linux Animation Movie Player which is is a movie player based on different libraries, namely avifile, smpeg, libmpeg2, libmpeg3, and Xanim.
