Keywords
From SuperbHosting.net Support Wiki
A keyword is a direct reference to the content or the type of meta element included in a web page's HTML code to assist in the page's indexing. A keyword meta element may include a number of comma-separated keywords (or keyword phrases, each of which may contain several individual words) as follows:
<meta name="keywords" content="keyword,another keyword,one more keyword" />
Keyword can also refer to the terms, phrases or words that are submitted by someone using a search engine. For example, if you decide one day to look up Sphynx cats (more popularly known as Mr. Bigglesworth from Austin Powers fame) using the Google search engine, you would likely type in something like, "sphynx cat" or "bald cat". Google would take these keywords and determine a set of search engine results that relate best to your specified keywords.
Keywords are also an important concept for those businesses looking to advertise or operate on or from the online landscape. Keywords are those words or phrases which will "catch" and help your website to rank highly on popular search engines such as Google or Yahoo. Unfortunately a technical definition of "keyword" does not offer insight to their significance or how to use with them successfully. However there is one thing that you can know for certain of keywords; as more and more aspects of human knowledge and information is digitized and therefore 'searchable', the ability to comprehend and successfully create, organize and manipulate keywords leads directly the accessing of critically important information, and gets the right information to the right audience.
