Grace Period, Redemption Period & Pending Delete

From SuperbHosting.net Support Wiki

  • Redemption Period - or RGP is a 29-day timeframe after a registrar has deleted an expired domain such as .com, .net and .biz domains
  • Pending Delete - as it applies to .com and .net domains refers to the 5-day timeframe after Redemption during which time VeriSign holds the domain and it cannot be recovered
  • Pending Delete - as it applies to .org domains is the 30-day timeframe after the registrar (PIR) has deleted an expired .org domain

Some things to keep in mind when a domain name is in Redemption Period or Pending Delete status:

  • One cannot recover domains in the Pending Delete status
  • When a domain name is in its Redemption period, if you want to get that domain name back, you must contact the previous registrar to buy back the domain
  • Re-activating a domain in the Redemption Period is the same as renewing a domain
  • You can place an order for a renew and SuperbRegistrar will try to re-activate the domain for you
  • Re-activation is not guaranteed. SuperbRegistrar is not responsible if the re-activation failed
  • Re-activating a domain costs more than renewing a domain. This fee is charged by the registrar and not SuperbRegistrar

To check the status of a domain

To check the status of a domain name, visit the following registry websites. Enter the domain in the WHOIS search and it will tell you the status of the domain including the Redemption Period. This will list the expiration date as well. The updated date is usually the date the domain went into Redemption or Pending Delete.

In General

  • After a domain expires, most registrars have a grace period during which time you can reactivate your domain.
  • After the grace period, the domain is deleted from the registrar database and will not appear in your account. It is not available to register just yet.
  • Once deleted, the domain is held for 30 days by the Registry. Once the domain is dropped it becomes available for anyone to purchase just like a new name.

NOTE: For EACH domain renewal, we send out a total of 4 notices to the user (reseller) contact:

  1. The first one is sent out 2 months prior to the expiry date with the subject "Early notice to renew your domain at Superbregistrar.net"
  2. The second one is sent out 1 month prior to the expiry date with the subject "Second Notice to renew your domain at Superbregistrar.net"
  3. The third one is sent out 2 weeks prior to the expiry date with the subject "Third Notice to renew your domain at Superbregistrar.net"
  4. The fourth and final notice is sent out 1 week prior to the expiry date with the subject "Final Notice for domain renewal"

In some cases, the e-mail will not make it to the recipient for various reasons. The most common reason being a SPAM setting/filter issue as well as the Registrant contact e-mail being out of date.

SuperbRegistrar Grace Period Procedures

  • When a domain expires through SuperbRegistrar, it will remain available for reactivation at your regular domain rate under your list of Expired Domains
  • Currently, SuperbRegistrar offers a non-guaranteed 29-day grace period for renewal. There is no guaranteed grace period. Once expired, SuperbRegistrar may dispose of it at any time according to the registration agreement
  • Once deleted, the domain will no longer be in your account, and will not be on your expired domains list. Please check your Redemption list for possible recovery at our then current Redemption rates.
  • You might consider adding multiple years to your domain to avoid unintentional expiration

SuperbRegistrar Redemption Period Process

  • Once deleted from our database, it falls into the 30-day holding status called Redemption Period at VeriSign and NeuLevel, and Pending Delete at PIR.org.
  • Should you want to retrieve the domain during Redemption, there is a fee to you plus the cost of the renewal for all TLDs.
  • Only the previous registrant has the right to request the domain back. All others must wait until the registry drops the domain.

If you wish to recover a domain name in its Redemption Period, please use our payment link https://order.superb.net/ to renew the domain. If the domain is not listed in the renewal form, then you can try to open a ticket and ask SuperbRegistrar to renew the domain for you.

Extended Redemption Grace Period

There are two stages of Redemption. After your domains expire, you may find the status of Extended Redemption Grace Period (ERGP), or Redemption Grace Period (RGP). Prices vary and currently range from $160 to $175 per domain name. This is in addition to the domain renewal fee. Prices may change at any time without notice.

ERGP domains may remain in the account for up to 90 days, after which time the original registrant has abandoned all rights to the domain name. It will be removed from the account, and their name removed from the WHOIS. SuperbRegistrar may dispose of the name as they see fit.

RGP domains will typically remain in your account for up to 30 days, after which time they are deleted and fall into a 5-day pending delete status at the Registry. You cannot recover domains with a pending delete status. At the end of pending delete status, the domain is dropped by the Registry and is available for anyone to register as a brand new name.
