Dedicated Server
From SuperbHosting.net Support Wiki
A dedicated server, dedicated hosting solution, or self managed hosting solution is where the customer leases an entire server exclusively. This is more flexible, scalable, and predictable than shared hosting, as organizations have full control over the server; this includes choice of operating system (OS), hardware configuration, et al. A level of administration for your dedicated server can be provided by us; please visit our articles on managed services or the approximate cost of managed services. We offer dedicated servers in our McLean, Virginia and Tukwila/Seattle, Washington datacenters. These datacenter locations are also available for colocation.
Operating system support
We offer the following OSes for installtion with our dedicated hosting solutions:
Bandwidth & Connectivity
Bandwidth refers to the rate of transfer of data or the amount of data transferred given time period (usually a second) and is often represented in bits (of data) per second (bps). For example, visitors to your server, website, or web application use bandwidth as the traffic moves from your server to the Internet and vice versa. Connectivity refers to the data transfer rate for your dedicated server.
Our current dedicated hosting solutions offer between 1,000GB and 2,000GB of traffic per month with an options to upgrade available. The same hosting solutions offer a standard 10Mb/s port with the option of upgrading to a 100Mb/s port. One of the main reasons to outsource dedicated servers is the network we are able to provide. We offer a higher rate of connectivity and bandwidth at a lower price than an average business would be able to secure, because we are able to purchase it in bulk.
We include a service level agreement (SLA) based on network uptime. We recommend that you take time to review our SLA or any other hosting providers SLA to ensure they are able to meet your requirements. We also offer added solutions like server load balancing for high availability and server monitoring services.
Management
With regards to server management, there is an nearly unending list of tasks and requirements that can be included when discussing the term and there is currently no Industry standard to clearly define server management. The dedicated server hosting solutions we offer are completely self-managed. The customer is responsible for all aspects of server management, however, there are options for server management to be an add-on service.
Although no Industry standard exists, the following list includes a majority (if not all) aspects of server management:
- Operating system updates
- Application updates
- Server Monitoring
- Simple Network Management Protocol hardware monitoring
