Setting Up Your Mail Client For Receiving E-mail

In order to receive mail you will need to setup up your E-mail client software on your computer. Some of these E-mail programs are Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail, Pegasus and others.

Setting Up POP3/IMAP Accounts

  • Incoming Server: mail.example-site.com
  • Outgoing Server: smtp.example-site.com (however, we still encourage to use your ISP's SMTP if you can since it would be a lot quicker as it is closer to you)
  • Login: joe@example-site.com
  • E-mail address or Return e-mail address: joe@example-site.com

Under Outgoing Mail Server, ensure that My Server requires authentication is checked. Under Settings, ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is checked.

Test it. If it does not work, try changing the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) port to 8025.

If it still does not work, please contact your ISP and check if they are blocking the ports 25 and 8025. Your ISP can also provide you with their own Outgoing Server that you could use instead of smtp.yourdomain.com.

Setting Up Secure POP3/IMAP Access (SLS or TLS)

Everything is the same as above. Port settings for secure connections should be provided by your e-mail software.

  • For secure POP: 995
  • For secure IMAP: 993

We highly recommend that you DO NOT leave mail on your mail server. Doing so will limit your mail quota storage space and will prevent new e-mails from arriving. If you must leave mail on your server, please remember to purge your e-mail on a regular basis.
