API' stands for application programming interface and it is a source code interface that an operating system, library or service provides in order to carry out requests made by various computer programs. There are two different kinds of API's that you need to know about. The first kind is referred to as language-dependent. These kinds of API's are only available in a particular programming language. The second API is called language-independent and it stands for an API which is written in such a way that it can call on several programming languages.
