Upgrading and Backing
Up Miva Merchant Store Front
Our servers can host up to Miva Merchant v4.24. For anyone not using the this version of
Miva Merchant software, we recommend you upgrade.
For those customers who are upgrading from Version 2x or 3x, you will need
to contact Technical Support for
a Miva Merchant Upgrade Licence.
You will need FTP access to
your site to complete the backup and upgrade. For more information on using
FTP, please refer to our FTP
documentation online. For more information on upgrading your Miva Merchant

**Please make sure you
read through these directions completely before starting
your Backup or Upgrade. Thanks!
You may be required to remove all 3rd party modules before successfully completing
your upgrade to Miva Merchant v4.xx.
Because of this, you will want to be sure to back up ALL of your Miva Merchant
files before starting. Until the modules are removed, Miva Technical Support
cannot help with any issues that they might possibly cause by these modules
during the upgrade process.
Removing 3rd party modules
will delete any of the data that they have been used to
create.
For example: If you are using an Inventory Tracking module, it will remove
all inventory information from the store. If you are using a Coupon module,
and Coupons that you have created will be deleted as well ...etc.
There are ways that you can help to prevent yourself from being forced to
uninstall these modules in order to upgrade:
Contact us and make sure that all of the permissions are set correctly
on the server for the upgrade.
Basically, the permissions on the Miva Merchant script directory need
to have write access for the owner of the Miva Merchant files AND the
ROOT user.
Contact the vendor of the modules that you have installed. They will
most likely have modules that are compatible with the new version of
Miva Merchant. During the upgrade, Miva Merchant will prompt you for
the installation of new modules at which
time the 3rd party upgrades can be uploaded and installed. Chances are
that you will be upgrading them eventually, so it's a pretty good idea
to do this DURING the initial upgrade.
**Before going
through this backup/upgrade, make sure you pack
your Store Data Files**
Backing Up Your Storefront
On your local computer, create a folder called Backup. Inside this
folder, create two more folders: One called Web and one called Data.
FTP to your website
In your sites Web Directory, there should be a Merchant2 folder. This
will contain .mv files. Take a copy of this folder and all of it's contents
and place it in the Web folder on your local computer
In your sites Data Directory, there should be another Merchant2 folder.
This will contain .dbf and .mvx files. Take a copy of this folder and
all of it's contents and place it in the Data folder on your local computer
FTP to your website
You now have a complete backup of your storefront - please proceed
with your upgrade.
Upgrading Your Storefront
After you have finished the above steps including backing up your storefront, create a support ticket asking for the upgrade. We will make the necessary configuration changes to begin, and we will do the basics of the upgrade. Once completed, our staff will notify you in the ticket for you to proceed with the next step.
Open up a web browser and goto:
www.YOURDOMAIN.com/Merchant2/upgrade.mvc
(This may be different depending on where your host has Miva Merchant
installed.)
Follow the on-screen directions to complete the upgrade.
For Version 2x or 3x it will ask for a upgrade license number - for
Version 4x no licence is required (for version 1x the procedure is
different, you need to do an import - contact Miva for more information).
Please note there is a $25 upgrade
licence fee.
You have now successfully upgraded
your Miva Merchant store to v4.xx (latest version)!
